Getting your period can be a tough and challenging experience for many women because of the accompanying physical and emotional symptoms. If you are currently on your menstrual period, you are aware of the degree of discomfort you will experience during the first two days. The majority of women experience painful periods at least once per month. However, painful periods do not indicate healthy fertility. It’s more of a misconception associated with it.
Pain experienced during your period is known as dysmenorrhea. The pain originates in the lower abdomen and can also radiate to back and inner thighs. This pain can have a severe effect on a patient’s life and is an extremely prevalent gynecologic issue.
Dysmenorrhea can be classified as primary or secondary.
Primary dysmenorrhea: On the onset of your period, primary dysmenorrhea occurs and it continues throughout life. Severe and irregular uterine contractions may result from severe to recurring menstrual cramps.
Secondary dysmenorrhea: This is caused due to some physical reasons or maybe because of an underlying medical condition such as endometriosis. This type usually occurs late in life.
CAUSES OF PAINFUL PERIODS
Dysmenorrhea may result from:
Endometriosis: Tissue that develops outside of the uterus and functions in a similar way as the lining of the uterus; this tissue mainly appears on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or the tissues lining your pelvis.
Pelvic inflammatory disease: Sexually transmitted bacteria are typically the cause of this infection of the female reproductive system.
Adenomyosis: The tissue lining your uterus starts to grow into the uterine muscles.
Uterine fibroids: These benign growths in the uterine wall may be painful.
Cervical stenosis: In certain women, the cervix’s opening is so tiny that it obstructs the flow of menstrual blood, painfully raising the intrauterine pressure.
ARE PAINFUL PERIODS SIGNS OF GOOD FERTILITY?
The pain can range in intensity from excruciatingly dull to excruciatingly sharp. So does having periods that are painful mean that you’re fertile? Certainly, the answer is no.
Period pain is a common symptom among women, but it does not always indicate a problem with fertility. However, if period pains worsen later in life, there might be a deeper issue at hand. These kinds of symptoms are more likely to be indicative of an issue with the uterus or other pelvic organs, an issue that could impair your ability to become pregnant.
