Surrogate Mother Selection

Surrogate Mother is a woman who agrees to carry someone else’s child in their womb. She carries the baby for 9 months and after giving birth, the child is handed over to the intended parents.

This is a big concern of intended parents, because they want to ensure that the surrogate who will carry their baby will be healthy, so that their baby is in safe hands. Pride IVF ensures that the woman is properly screened before being chosen for surrogacy. They have to be-

  • Physically healthy
  • Age between 25 to 32
  • No disease
  • No surgical or medical history
  • Healthy uterus with normal shape and size
  • Must already have children of her own

Taking care of Surrogate Mother

To deliver a healthy baby, it is ensured that the surrogate and the baby are well taken care of in a Covid Free environment. Surrogate home fulfils all the needs of the surrogate mother like- lodging, food including all necessary nutrients like- protein, vitamins, iron and calcium. The surrogate mother is given space and time to rest properly without any stress. She is given the necessary pregnancy drugs and medication and is also called for routine checkups to monitor the growth progress of the baby. There is also a provision of meditation and yoga programs for the surrogate mother.

Step-by-step Surrogacy Process

From consultation till finally holding your baby in your hands, Surrogacy is a process of 11 months.

  • First of all, the intended parents choose a centre, where they are counselled about the surrogacy procedure. After the intended parents finalise the clinic, the actual process begins.
  • On the second day of the intended mother’s period (in the case of self eggs), she is given injections for egg retrieval. The injections are given for approximately 10 days. During this time, the couple also chooses the Surrogate Mother after they are screened and tested.

In the case of Donor Eggs or Embryos, the intended parents are provided with multiple profiles of Donors, from which they can select one according to their needs. Then, just like in the case of self eggs, these donor eggs are also injected to make them fit for fertilization.

  • After this, the egg retrieval process takes place, where the eggs are taken from the intended mother’s ovaries and fertilized with the intended father’s sperm inside a lab and according to the surrogate mother’s period, the embryo is transferred inside her womb. This process is known as In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
  • Meanwhile, Documentation is also prepared, which binds the intended parents, the surrogate mother and the clinic in a Legal Agreement.
  • Once the embryo is transferred inside the womb of the Surrogate Mother, the first stage of pregnancy begins. After one and a half weeks, the surrogate mother is tested to know whether the pregnancy has taken place or not (by checking the heartbeat of the baby), if it fails, then the entire process (IVF) is repeated till pregnancy is achieved. At this time, all the pregnancy tests take place.
  • After that the Surrogate Mother is shifted to the Surrogate Home, where she is taken care of. She is called for routine check-ups, ultrasounds and more. Also, while she is staying in the surrogate home, the intended parents can visit her anytime to check up on the health of the surrogate mother and the baby.
  • After 3 to 4 months, the intended mother is called to the clinic, where she is injected with Lactogen medicines which allow her to breastfeed the baby after delivery.
  • When, after 9 months, the surrogate delivers the baby (normal or C-section delivery), the baby is given to its intended parents.
  • Also, the intended parents are given the Birth Certificate of the child, which states them as the birth parents.

First of all, it is important to understand that Surrogacy, the last resort to have a biological child, is a personal, emotional and expensive procedure, chosen after a long lost battle with infertility. Patients opt for surrogacy when they have had multiple IVF failures, have genetic disorders or the intended mother is old in age, has an absent uterus, birth defects or has life threatening diseases and cannot carry a baby.

To ease the mind of intended parents, Vinsfertility offers free consultation for surrogacy treatment, and once the patient has agreed for surrogacy, the search for donor eggs starts (in case of donor egg surrogacy). The profiles of donors and surrogates are shared with the intended parents, who are free to choose whomever they deem fit.

Vinsfertility ensures that the woman is properly screened before being chosen for surrogacy.
