When it comes to IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), many people wonder:How much sperm is actually used?
The good news is you don’t need a large amount. After a semen sample is collected, it goes through a special “sperm washing” process in the lab. This step removes impurities and separates out the healthiest, most active sperm.
For IUI, usually 0.5 to 1 milliliter (ml) of this concentrated, high-quality sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter. That may sound like a tiny amount, but it actually contains millions of motile sperm—giving them the best chance to meet the egg and achieve fertilization.
Think of it like this: instead of sending out a huge crowd, IUI sends only the strongest swimmers right where they need to be, at just the right time.
