Altruistic surrogacy in India means a woman (the surrogate) carries a baby for another couple without charging any money for it, except for medical and pregnancy-related expenses. She doesn’t do it for profit, but rather out of care usually, she’s a close relative or someone emotionally connected to the intended parents.
This type of surrogacy is 100% legal in India and is allowed under the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021. Commercial surrogacy, where women are paid beyond medical costs, is strictly banned to prevent exploitation.
So if you're planning to become parents through surrogacy in India, only altruistic surrogacy is permitted.
